For me, this stop on my adventures was all about that crazy love and infatuation for the man, the myth, the legend...Vlad Tepes. I know what you are thinking not again! Is that the only reason you went to Romania? Not at all but when in Romania, right! Luckily besides its ties to the Impaler, Sighisoara has a lot to offer.


So let's get started exploring this amazing city! Sighisoara is located in the heart of Transylvania, surrounded by rolling hills and dense forests, and is known for its well-preserved 16th-century citadel, cobbled streets, and colorful houses.


So, whether you're a history buff, a vampire enthusiast, or simply looking for a stunning destination off the beaten path, Sighisoara has got you covered. Get ready to fall in love with this enchanting gem of Romania just like I did!


How to Reach Sighisoara: Your Ultimate Guide

Before I dive into all the amazing sights and other things Sighisoara has to bring to the table you may be wondering how the heck you get there! Fortunately, reaching this hidden gem in the heart of Transylvania is easier than you think.


If you're flying in from abroad, the nearest airport to Sighisoara is in Targu Mures, about an hour's drive away. Targu Mures is well-connected to major European cities like London, Berlin, and Vienna, so getting there shouldn't be a problem.


Alternatively, if you prefer to travel by train, you're in for a treat! Sighisoara has its very own train station, which is connected to several major Romanian cities like Bucharest and Brasov. So, if you're looking for a scenic train ride through the beautiful Romanian countryside, this might just be the perfect option for you. This is the route I chose to take and I will say it is by far my favorite of the options.


I traveled in from Brasov and the train ride was majestic. So if you want my opinion yo should definetly take a little train ride and take in all the sights! If not though there is one more choice.


Last but not least, if you're feeling adventurous and want to explore Romania by car, Sighisoara is easily accessible via the E60 European Highway, which connects it to major cities like Cluj-Napoca and Brasov. Just be prepared for some winding mountain roads and breathtaking vistas along the way!

This is where I stayed and it was pretty epic but chce out the sites and find a hsotel that ftsyour vibe tere are plenty of options.

It's so small there rally can't be that much to see right! Though Sighisoara might be a small city, but it's packed with things to see and do. Here are some of the top attractions you won't want to miss:


Sighisoara Citadel: This is the heart and soul of the city, and it's no wonder why - the well-preserved medieval walls, towers, and houses are a sight to behold. Take a stroll through the narrow streets and soak in the atmosphere of times gone by.


Clock Tower: This iconic tower is the symbol of Sighisoara, and it's easy to see why. The tower houses a fascinating history museum, showcasing everything from medieval weapons to traditional crafts.


Dracula House: No visit to Transylvania is complete without a nod to the region's most famous resident and my good friend- Vlad the Impaler, aka Dracula. This museum, housed in the supposed birthplace of Vlad, tells the story of his life and legacy. And there is a delicious restaurant attached to it so why not have a delicious Romanian meal and explore the birthplace of this iconic Romanian ruler?


Church on the Hill: This stunning Gothic church is located at the top of a steep hill, offering panoramic views of the city below. Take a deep breath and climb up the stairs - the view is worth it! Or at least I heard...LOL. I never made it to the top but it is a beautiful building none the less.


In addition to these top attractions, there are also plenty of tours and activities to choose from. The Vlad the Impaler tour takes you on a journey through the life and times of the infamous ruler, while the Transylvanian fortified churches tour showcases some of the most stunning and unique churches in the region.


But no matter what you choose to do, one thing is for sure - Sighisoara will capture your heart and imagination, leaving you with memories to last a lifetime.

After a long day of sightseeing, I am always famished so there's nothing quite like sitting down to a delicious meal and a refreshing drink. This small city ofders a wide rage of restraints and cafes that can easily quench your thirst and curb your hunger!


For a taste of traditional Romanian cuisine, head to Casa Dracula. This cozy restaurant serves up dishes like sarmale (stuffed cabbage rolls), mici (grilled minced meat rolls), and polenta with cheese. And if you're feeling adventurous, be sure to try some of the local drinks, like palinca (fruit brandy) or tuica (plum brandy).


If you're in the mood for something a bit more upscale, check out Gasthaus Alte Post. This elegant restaurant offers a mix of Romanian and German dishes, with a focus on locally-sourced ingredients. Try the roast pork with sauerkraut and potatoes, and be sure to wash it down with a glass of red wine.

Another must-see attraction is the fortified church at Biertan, which is just a short drive from Sighisoara. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most well-preserved fortified churches in Transylvania, and features intricate carvings and stunning frescoes.


For something a bit more off-the-beaten-path, consider a trip to the village of Viscri. Here you'll find a charming collection of traditional homes and farms, as well as a beautifully-restored fortified church. And if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of Prince Charles, who owns a home in the village.
